We all know how the playoffs ended for the new look Dallas Cowboys team. Let me paint a picture real quick for you if you’ve forgotten.
Cowboys need a FG to take a lead in boisterous Seattle. Antonio Romo is the holder. The snap comes back to him and… Well you know the rest. The Colts win the championship behind the leadership of Peyton “Mr. Commerical” Manning.
This year Romo and company has made this a pretty good run for themselves and Cowboys fans alike. Some fans like myself were still in grade school around the time they last won a playoff game. In fact, many “fans” can remember who the Cowboys beat back then.
Romo and the Cowboys now stand at 13-2 going into a meaningless game in Maryland against the Redskins this coming Sunday. But some would say that the game does carry a little meaning. “We want to win 14”, says Cowboys head coach Wade Phillips. The jolly head coach hangs his hat on setting a record in wins for a historic team that has never accomplished a 14 win season.
And then there’s the upcoming playoffs situation. How many players on this team are actually primed and ready for a Super Bowl run? Based on my knowledge only Terrell Owens has been to the big game more recently than any other player. In fact, he and the other wideout Terry Glenn are the oldest of all the active players. Flozell Adams and Greg Ellis are up there in age as well but haven’t come close at all to the big game or even the conference title game for that matter.
The Cowboys have home field advantage for this year’s playoffs in the NFC. So as long as the team wins they get to play in a building that I call the “Mecca of Football”. You may know it as Texas Stadium. Hopefully, these guys don’t get too full of themselves here in the Metroplex because there will be a lot of people smiling in their faces and telling them how good they are.
If you happen to spot your favorite player in the stores, malls, or restaurant, please refrain from making it a lick-fest. Instead say something that could get their blood pumping just a little. If you need help with that, give me a call.
